The Hingakawa Women's Coffee Cooperative, part of the Abakundakawa-Rushashi Cooperative formed in 2004, is the first women-run coffee association in Rwanda. The other half, the Dakundakawa Association, is also fully operated by women. Both cooperatives are located in the high-altitude, mountainous Gakenke district, producing bourbon varietal coffee that is washed and sun-dried.
